GBI's Label Applicator • Print and Apply "on-the-fly"

GBI's Label Print and Apply "on-the-fly" feature will independently and uniquely label each product while it is being sorted according to customer specified rules. As little as two label-printer-applicators are mounted along the tray path with the combined capability of labeling product at the maximum sort rate of 200 trays per minute. A third printer is recommended to share the load equally with the others and to provide redundancy. GBI's unique orientation design transfers the automatically inducted product from the first belt (tray) to a second by tilting the product onto the second belt (tray). This transfer reorients the product to an upright position. The product is then conveyed passed the printers where the labels are applied. Once the label is applied the product is repositioned to lie flat on the tray for conveyance to its designated sort destination.

Label Print and Apply applicators may be supplied with the sorter to print and apply labels on demand. The label applicators are mounted on the sorter applying the labels after they are scanned and before they are sorted. This method allows the same product to be priced according to the individual store requirements.

Each label applicator has the capacity to operate at a peak of 100 labels per minute. Printers are often set-up to operate alternately at 50 labels per minute each (when two printers are employed) to extend the life of the applicators, provide prolonged operating time between label reloads, and most importantly to add redundancy. In the event that one label applicator goes down (such as when it runs out of labels), the alternate label applicator will automatically revert to its full rate to label every product until the second printer can be brought online.

Various sensors and controls are included to help ensure proper label placement with visual warning lights to alert personnel to certain conditions. Communications between the printers and the Sorter Server are also maintained to keep the server informed on the condition of the print process permitting the server programming to adjust the process for changing conditions.
